Today was back to a "normal" day at the mission office. Elder Courtright is arranging for 4 vehicles in the area to be repaired next week and with only one spare vehicle it will be challenging. Sister Courtright met with the Stake Historian to review the annual historical report that she needs to submit for the mission. She needs to put together several items, to which Sister Hansen (the outgoing recorder) had already put a significant amount of work into it. She has until March to collect all the remaining information. She had some significant help from the Assistants, Elder Keetch and Elder Huang. They helped her pull together "The Crest", which is a newsletter that goes out to everyone in the mission and contains a message from the President, a calendar for upcoming events, and a roster of where everyone is serving along with a list of newly baptized members from around the mission. I counted 50 for the past 6 weeks.
We were so thankful for the assistants help that we invited them to dinner with us when we left the office a little after 7:00 PM. We took them to the Salt Water Grill in the Howard Center near our boarding. It was good to visit with them and Elder Keetch arranged for a missionary visit with the waiter at the end of our dinner. Elder Keetch is a wonderful missionary and we hope and pray for him to be comforted and feel peace while his family is back home preparing for his father's funeral tomorrow.

Cape Town Mission Field       24 December 2018    Day 380 Monday Welcome Christmas Eve! We were up around 6:00 AM to cook the calamari and haul all the food to the office and get it setup for the open house. It was a hectic morning but with the help of our dear friend, The Lord, we were able to pull it all together. Sister Hamilton worked on the rolls and some cookies she made up beforehand. She also supplied a ham and a 7 layer bean dip. It was a welcomed treat for all the elders. They were very grateful for all the wonderful food and were excited to receive their packages from Sister Courtright that she has been holding for them. The assistants came back after their soccer game and helped with some kitchen cleanup. We finally left around 6:00 PM and spent the evening vegging out. It was a good day!

Cape Town Mission Field       21 June 2018     Day 194 Thursday Today Sister Courtright had Neil Slater stop in with his boys to do some facility changes. They moved some shelves, supported some other shelves, added a Masonite board for her transfer board, and sealed a leak in the roof. She keeps them busy. Elder Courtright submitted an incident report to the Church headquarters. This is done for any injury, accident, assault, threat, or violent act. Elder Lane was stopped by a man with a knife last Saturday and he emptied his pockets and the man took a R50 note then told him not to say anything then left. We are sure grateful that nothing serious happened to Elder Lane. After all, he's been through quite enough. (Early on in his mission experience he was stabbed in the back by someone attempting to take their car. He has an issue with knives, I think.)

Cape Town Mission Field   28 October 2019   Day 687 Monday Count Up => +1 We have now started our personal tour of South Africa, this is Day 1. We headed for the Cape of Good Hope today knowing it was going to be raining off and on. This is a trip that you spend a lot of time in the car and we were hoping for sunny breaks when we got out to see things. We asked Martha to come along and she was excited to do so. We first stopped at Simon's Town to see the penguins. We were practically the first on the beach. We met Sean Robertson from Idaho but grew up in Salt Lake around 45th South and Redwood Road. He has traveled the world (52 countries) working mostly on ships as a repair diver and inspector. We left just as it started to rain. We then went down to the Cape of Good Hope and the sun was out so we hiked up to the lighthouse and had some great weather. We also drove down to the beach and took some photos there too.
