Day 103
Thursday

Today was boarding inspection day for the Guguletu Elders (Lillback and Barnabas). We installed a smoke alarm/CO monitor (because they were without one). Sister Courtright helped them to understand the bed room cleaning necessity and frequency to eliminate bugs. Elder Courtright screwed back on a kitchen cabinet door. And after unsuccessfully trying to clean out their vacuum cleaner we brought in a new one from our car. With the right tools anything is possible.
We then went to the Meadowridge Elders (Lane and Makwakwa). They moved into the Rhodes view apartment while theirs was being renovated. Sister Courtright taught them how to rehang their living room curtains. Elder Courtright tried to rehang a kitchen cabinet door but the hinge was broken so he removed it and will bring back a new one.
We stopped for lunch at a nearby Thai restaurant and Sister Courtright asked the chef to teach her how to make the carrot flower garnish that came with our meals.

We then drove to Reeds Dealership in Claremont to pick up a car that was just repaired. We drove it over to the Meadowridge Elders that we had just visited earlier. They took their car back and I drove the spare back to the office while Sister Courtright followed in our car.
The Somerset Elders car went in for service due to overheating so they are requesting to use the spare. I told them they can take it but just remember the boot needs to be repaired so there's no access to the truck or spare (which is flat) should they get a flat. They are willing to take that chance. They could just ride their bikes while their car is being repaired. Oh wait, they can't ride their bikes because they left them unlocked and they were stolen. Nevermind.

  1. Wow, thanks for sending me the link. It seems like you two are having a great time in South Africa. It reminds me of our time this winter in Mexico working with an orphanage, always something to do. When in England we were at a Thai restaurant that cut radishes into roses, so much fun for you guys. We love you and will keep you in our prayers, Penny and Bob.
