Cape Town Mission Field

12 April 2018
Day 124
Thursday

Today we spent most of the morning at the doctor's office. Sister Courtright was having 3 MRI's done to determine if there's anything in her neck/head area causing her persistent head, neck, and shoulder pain.
Back at the office Sister Courtright is preparing reading packets for everyone to prepare for the upcoming area authority visit at the beginning of May. Elder Palmer will be visiting from Johannesburg.
Elder Courtright was busy sending out requests to property managers for payments to help with boarding improvements at several of our boarding's in the Cape Town area. He also did some car swapping. The Hamilton's inherited the Peterson's car and Elder Lane and Makwakwa inherited the Hamilton's Corolla following the demise of their vehicle in Tuesday's accident.
We stopped at the Canal Walk mall for some health care items at Click's pharmacy and while there we ran into 3 members. One dishing up ice cream for us at Haggen Daz (Leeroy). And two young ladies coming out of the posh bakery. One is heading back to London, England tomorrow and had to stop at the mall to get a South African T-shirt. Both members were from the Milnerton ward.

PS We were also notified by the President that after discussions he had with the Bellville Stake President (Kruger) it was decided that Elder and Sister Courtright will be assigned to the Langa Ward. Langa means Sun.
We are excited to work with these wonderful saints in an area with a rich history of South African change.
Here's some background from Wikipedia:

Langa is a township and suburb of Cape TownSouth Africa. It was established in 1927 in terms of the 1923 Urban Areas Act. Similar to Nyanga, Langa is one of the many areas in South Africa that were designated for Black Africans before the apartheid era. It is the oldest of such suburbs in Cape Town and was the location of much resistance to apartheid. Langa is also where several people were killed on 21 March 1960 same day as the Sharpeville massacre, during the anti-pass campaign. On 21 March 2010, now 50 years later, a monument was unveiled by the government in remembrance of the people who lost their lives.

  1. I hope you enjoy your new post and responsibilities. I pray that Sandra will get some relief from the pain and that God will guide the doctors in all that they do.
