Cape Town Mission Field

2 April 2018
Day 114
Monday

Today is a National Holiday (Easter - Family Day) so we knew things would be very quiet on the roads. We stayed up late watching conference. Slept in a little, then rolled into the office. We stopped to pay a traffic ticket for a pair of missionaries. They get to reimburse the church for any tickets they receive since they were not following mission policy by obeying all the local traffic ordinances. They actually stopped in an area where there is "no standing" (that is no stopping) and an officer immediately was there to give them a ticket. Both elders are responsible for sharing the burden of the ticket. Unless, for instance, in a speeding situation they both agree that the companion in the passenger seat was warning the driver about the speeding limit then the driver gets the whole ticket.
We found what appeared to be a Ham shank at the grocery store (where we stopped to pay the ticket through their online process) so we picked one up for lunch. It wasn't very good. And in case you're looking for one down here you need to refer to it by its proper name or you get strange looks trying to explain what it is you're looking for. It is called "eisbein".

  1. Can you cook it with some beans and make ham and bean soup? The joys of living abroad.
