Cape Town Mission Field

 16 April 2019
  Day 493
Tuesday

We started out by dropping a load of scrap material that we pulled from the George elders boarding then went to the post office and Makro for boarding supplies. We are starting to get some requests for heaters as the weather is starting to cool down. We then did some orientation to the new elder that arrived today. He was out of the normal transfer cycle and we were just informed about him arriving last week. He is Elder Del Quirroz from Brasil. Three weeks earlier arrangements were made for Elder Lopes to come here today to do transfers with the assistants. As he arrived at the airport he saw someone turn the corner that looked like an elder. So he caught up to him and noticed the name and spoke to him in Portuguese. Elder Del Quirroz who speaks very little english was lost and didn't know where to go. So having an elder approach him and speak to him in his native language was one of God's little miracles.
We then jetted to the airport to greet Elder Mbaki who is returning home from his mission in Johannesburg. His family lives in Langa and we go to church with his family. Brother Mbaki was the previous Branch President in Langa 2 and they also have another son serving a mission right now. Their younger son will now be leaving on mission soon.
We caught up on some emails in the office then ran out just before 5:00 pm to pick up a bike that was in the shop. We then went to the Mbaki's home in Langa to have a dinner celebration with their returning son. It was a great celebration. We then headed to Tableview to return the bike to the missionaries there. They are all out of transfer funds so they were very grateful to have their bike back. It was Elder Farer's birthday and we brought a sewing machine with us because his pants that he just bought were too big around the waist. It seems his legs are too big for most pants so he has to buy a larger size, then they don't fit his waist. So Sister Courtright showed him how to modify pants in case he needed to do this again in the future.
We ran to the Canal Walk mall to pick up Elder Courtright's blood pressure prescription that ran out yesterday.
Another full day!
