Cape Town Mission Field

  8 May 2019
  Day 515
Wednesday

We got up at 6 am after 4 hours of sleep and headed for the market to get some fruit for the transfers. We then went into the office to get some items then stopped at the post office to pick up any letters for the elders that are passing through. We then headed for the Gugulethu chapel and set up at 8:30 am for the transferring elders. All went well then we wrapped things up and headed back to the office to arrange for supplies for the Cape Town elders to be picked up by the zone leaders. Elder Courtright had to arrange for a new phone for a new area being organized in Paarl. We were able to manage travel very well because today was a public holiday and the roads had little to no traffic on them. While we were gone they had 3 cars go out of commission. Elsie's River car was hit by a drunk driver, the Paarl car wouldn't start, and the Mfuleni Elders car began to make a terrible grinding sound from under the car. The assistants loaned the Mfuleni elders their car and they are driving the mission van. Elder Firth lent his car to the Paarl elders, and the Elsie River elders are using the spare car. Elder and Sister Firth were using the Ford Ranger while we were gone. He said that he was glad to have us back because everything seemed to fall apart while we were gone. He also backed into a car while leaving the parking lot at the Howard Center. So all-in-all yesterday was a very bad day for Elder Firth. Elder Courtright also heard that the Grahamstown elders let their car overheat and it froze the engine. So now they are without a car too. We left the office around 7:30 and were in bed by 9:30. We were both very tired and will try to catch up on some sleep.
