Cape Town Mission Field
9 March 2018
Day 90
Friday
Can you believe it? 90 days...3 months in the field. We can't believe the time is going by so fast.
Today was an implosion day for vehicles...
It started with an early morning drive to drop off a vehicle at the Chevrolet Service Dealer that moved from Cape Town to Claremont. They like to hide there service department because it was quite an exercise trying to find there new facility during morning commute traffic.
The Plumstead Elders have their car at the Mission Office waiting to be taken in next week because of a terrible rattling noise at speed. So the spare car they have seemed to have developed a starter problem so it ended up being towed into the dealer. They could push start it but one time they did it smoke came out from near the battery so they decided to stop that process. The Brackenfell Elders took their car in for an AC issue which the dealer can't seem to resolve so they continue to drive our car. When it looked like they were going to take out the dash board to try and find the problem I had the Elders go retrieve it. They will have to go without AC. That's too much of a cost on a car that has over 100,000 kilometers on it. Elder Courtright had to run to buy gas for the Guguletu Elders since their Fleet credit card broke in two. When we called the Area office in Johannesburg about the replacement they frankly had been too busy to send the new one. The Langa Branch zone leaders had their cars battery die. So they came to the office to get some tools to swap batteries with the Guguletu Elders in order to drive it to the garage for troubleshooting. They put the good battery in their car, started it, put the bad battery back in the car, so now it is running at least so they could drive it to the garage. The garage had a difficult time processing their Fleet card so Elder Courtright had to run out and pay for the battery. Elder Courtright got a call around 4:30 from the Somerset Elders stating that their car oil service light came on but the oil level is fine. It seemed to be running rough or at least different. I had them take it to the dealer in Somerset West just as they were closing. The service manager called at 6:00 stating that they couldn't find anything wrong with the car I took in this morning. So we can have it back and we have their blessings that they hope it doesn't just stall on the Elders again while driving. Hmmm.
Elder Courtright felt like Charlie Brown at the end of the day...wanting to step outside and yell at the top of his lungs...ARRRRRGGGHHH!!!
One fun thing that happened Thursday night while out shopping at the Canal Walk Mall was that we ran into two sisters from the Meadowridge Ward who dressed up in typical Zulu attire to see the hit move The Black Panther. They were all excited to see a black superhero based on a futuristic dominant African nation. We need to go see it before it leaves the theaters here.
Wow, sounds like prayers for cars is needed all the time.
