    Day 224
Saturday

Today we visited the Hermanus elders. Newly arrive Elder Allen from the East Cape and Elder Allred, one of our veterans. Elder Allen loves to dirt bike in the deserts of Arizona. There boarding is in very good shape but we took down several actions to add some finer touches. Elder Courtright rehung the towel rack in the bathroom while we were there and Sister Courtight had the elders wash the kitchen curtains then we rehung them when they were finished. We enjoyed lunch in town overlooking the beach, fish and chips, of course. While walking back to the car we Sister Courtright asked a family who was watching the bay with some binoculars if they've seen any whales. The mother responded positively by stating that they are watching a group of about 4 whales right now. She pointed towards the center point of the bay and very close to shore where you could see some white crests where they were near the surface. Just then we saw a very large "V" shaped spray which is the signature spray from the Southern Right whale. We then watched for a few minutes and saw some flippers and tails come out of the water in that area. We look forward to our next trip in several weeks when the activity is supposed to pick up even more.
We then drove to Betty's Bay and stopped at the Harold Porter Nature Reserve and walked a loop that went to the falls and across the Fynbos then back through the gardens. There are a lot of wonderful plants blooming right now. It was all very beautiful. We had to watch our step, their was a lot of Baboon poo along the trail. It's been reported that a leopard lives in the area and has in the past found it's way down to the coast and feasted on some Penguins. Apparently they only eat the heart.
On the way be we stopped at Gordon's bay, which is across False bay from Cape Town, to catch the sunset as it dropped over Table Mountain.
