Cape Town Mission Field

    Day 433
Friday

We headed to Port Alfred this morning but first stopped at the Beal's to pick up supplies to the Port Alfred elders. They also needed Restoration pamphlets but they were still at the Post Net office having just arrived from yesterday's shipment by Sister Courtright. So we stopped there and they pulled out 2 packs for us. We enjoyed the nice ride along the coast route to Port Alfred. We arrived and picked up some KFC for the the Port Alfred Elders and the Grahamstown Elders who were both having a District meeting at the chapel just up the street. We had a nice lunch and had a great chat with them. We noticed the pictures on the wall and recognized the Peterson's who left from here about a year ago. We met Brother Kenny who showed Sister Courtright the stores up the street. They also picked up a sack of prickly pears from a lady selling them on the street. We did some shopping then headed to the cottage to check in. The Spinning Reel B&B and cottages are just over the dune next to the ocean. They had one cottage left and it was really rustic. After looking the place over Elder Courtright asked Sister Courtright if he should bring in the bags or not. After some consideration we decided to make it an adventure. We eventually found the shower, it was outside. We headed back to town to pick up some supplies. While shopping we ran into a gentleman named Francis from Ghana and he could see something about us. He said that in the morning he decided to fast and ask God for direction in his life. Once he saw us he knew God had answered his prayers. We invited the missionaries down to talk with him and invite him to church. We also met an enthusiastic parking lot attendant who was helping Sister Courtright locate some plastic dishes for the chapel, we noticed they had be using recycled plastic throw-away dishes and we wanted to upgrade their situation. We gave him a bigger than normal tip and he was truly grateful because that was just the amount he needed to pay for the fee to enroll his son into school. Once back at the cottage we found out that the refrigerator was not turned on so we decided to invite ourselves over to the missionaries staying up the road at Kowie Cabanas. They are temporarily housed at the Cape Town Stake President's summer home. It sleeps 9. It wasn't as elegant as I had pictured, which is good, having elders in there. But once we knew it would be Elder Lawer and Elder Johnson we had no concern about putting them anywhere. They fixed us chicken and beans over spaghetti noodles, very creative these elders are. We brought watermelon, fruit juice, and grapes. After dinner and some talk we headed back to our cottage and called it a day.

On the chapels bulletin board...they don't have a font so they baptize in the river

We found an old photo of the Peterson's

This was a great idea. President Nelson said you can't serve someone you don't know by their face or their name.
