Cape Town Mission Field

 15 April 2019
  Day 492
Monday

We stopped at the West's before leaving George and reviewed a few last items with them before heading back to Cape Town. Elder Courtright enjoyed his time traveling with Elder West as he shared some interesting stories such as his best friend in High School was the younger brother of the lead singer in the Beach Boys and he got invited to the recording studio one day and it turned out they were working on the release of "Good Vibrations".
Got a call this morning from some Port Elizabeth elders who left their pack in the back seat and someone smashed the rear window and grabbed their scripture back. Elder Courtright goes through this safety talk for all the missionaries when they arrive. He tells them to never leave anything in their back seat and to always put it in the "boot" (trunk) because people with smash-n-grab items without knowing whats in it. They don't know that there are just scriptures in the bags, not any laptops. So we end up filling out police reports, spending precious time and money getting windows fixed for something that would only take 15 seconds to correct.
We drove through Oudshorne (Ostrich country) but didn't really have time to look around. We did stop at a factory ostrich leather goods store to look at handbags and belts. We picked up a belt for Elder Courtright. We then drove through Klein Karoo towards Cape Town. It was pretty country and if you snapped your fingers and appeared in any place in Utah you wouldn't know the difference.
When we got home we called our daughter to catch up with her since we missed her last night. She informed us of the fire that was ravaging the Notre Dame Cathedral. That's a very sad thing to hear happening to such a beautiful icon.
Utah countryside? It was eerie driving through here today. Could've sworn we were in Utah.
Beautiful markings on this stray cat where we stopped to have some lunch in Ladismith.

Camels
New bridge going in and every square foot was filled with scaffolding to install the concrete structure going up and over the river.
