  Day 586
Thursday

We did our Hermanus run today for boarding inspections. We stopped at Mandalay, Khayelitsha/Mfuleni, Somerset West, then Hermanus. The Mandalay elders boarding was in good shape, we made some minor recommendations and have asked the landlord to repaint this unit. The Mfuleni elders needed to have their smoke detector installed as it has just been hanging on the back of their bedroom door. Elder Mabunda had his birthday yesterday so we all sang to him. The Somerset West boarding was in terrible shape. It was not clean and the vacuum was sitting on the balcony in the rain. The shower was disgusting. Elder Courtright was so disgusted that he couldn't say anything without fear of blowing up. So Sister Courtright kindly went through and showed them how to deal with the cleaning issues. Turns out the vacuum was returned to them by the zone leaders and when they turned it on it began to smoke and spark so that's why they left it on the balcony. It was a good thing Elder Courtright didn't blow up at them. We then went to Hermanus and ended up grouting the bathroom, fixing a hinge on their window, installing their smoke detector, then fogging their flat before we stepped out to kill some fleas that had found their way into their bedroom. That's when we realized we didn't have the truck keys. So Elder Fullwood ran back in to look for them but couldn't find them so we had another look inside the Ranger and found them inside the tool box. They must've got dropped in there when we were loading up.
We drove down to the waterfront and had lunch/dinner at La Pentola overlooking the bay. Shane Sauvage is the owner/chef and has received international acclaim for his fusion style food and cookbooks. We had Springbok curry and a fillet with seafood topping. We started with a Watercommijte Spring roll. Which is a water lily slow cooked and is only available during this time of the year when they are in bloom. We finally arrived home around 7:30 pm. Another typical day on mission.
